The Madinah municipality has constructed nine walkways for residents. The paths have been laid in different parts of the city for residents to walk during their leisure time and keep fit.
Aside from walking, the residents can use weights the municipality has provided at some places.
Close to King Fahd Central Park, the Al-Abbas walkway is generally the most crowded. It is 2,200 meters long and 40 meters wide. It was built in two phases at a cost of about SR 12 million.
The new walkways that meander through green patches are well-lighted and have bathrooms at short distances.
"The Al-Abbas track is close to my home. I often walk on it to spend my leisure time and become healthier," Egyptian Hussam Muhammad told Arab News. He said the municipality had provided the walkway with all the required services to enable men and women to walk with ease and comfort.
Saudi Abdul Hadi Khaled thanked the municipality for taking care of everything, including the provision of sport equipment. "For those of us who cannot practice sport at home owing to lack of equipment, the walkways are the answer," he said.
